One night.
It was all I needed anyway, right? It’s not as if he was going to really commit to me, marry me, offer to impregnate me and father all our children.
“Are you sure about this, Avery?” He cupped my face with his rough hands. “You still have a choice. You can turn that cute ass around and march out that door—hell, you can even slam it on the way out. I’ll even let you keep the steak.”
“Are you offering me an out?”
He nodded.
“Do you offer that to every girl?”
Another nod.
“Do they ever take it?”
“Sometimes.”
“What do you want me to do?”
He paused. “You know, nobody has ever asked me that before.”

"While I told Dr. Thresher the dream comes but a few times a month, it’s more like a couple times a week. Only instead, the man, or ‘mystery savior’ as I like to call him, never comes to my rescue in the dream. He never hops off his bike and climbs over the barrier and onto the ledge himself. He never talks to me about his own battle with depression, his abusive father, his ugly divorce. He doesn’t convince me to give life another go.
Instead, I jump. And unlike what many go their whole lives believing, I do die in my dreams. I do feel the nerve-rattling fall that seems like forever. And I feel the concrete like water as my skull splits against it.
I smoke a few bowls of Mary Jane to hinder the onslaught of feelings, confusion and desperation the dream always brings. ABOUT THE AUTHOR
BT URRUELA was an infantryman in the US Army from August 2004 until February 2011. At the end of a year long tour to Baghdad, Iraq, his vehicle was hit by two roadside bombs, which took his right leg below the knee and the life of his commander. He was awarded a Purple Heart for his wounds, an Army Commendation Medal, and Combat Infantryman's Badge. He medically retired from the Army in 2011 and moved to Tampa, FL where he currently works as a Director and Brand Ambassador for VETSports, a veteran community sports nonprofit he co-founded in 2012. He also conducts motivational speeches, works as a cover and fitness model and he's a personal performance trainer. He co-wrote the novel 'A Lover's Lament’ with author KL Grayson in 2015. She turns her head.
And waves.
And smiles.
That smile makes me feel like I can do this. Like I can win her heart again. Mine pounds faster as I near her, and it’s not just because I happen to think she’s the most stunning woman I’ve ever seen, but because of who she is.

Armed with my clipboard, I walk down the hall to the
waiting room. Lance is impossible to miss. Despite the fact that he’s wearing a
sweatshirt and the hood is covering half of his face, he’s more than six feet
of broad, hockey-playing man.
He’s so wide his shoulders encroach on the chairs on
either side, which would explain why no one is sitting next to him. He’s
slouched down so his head rests on the back of the chair, and his hands are
clasped in his lap, a baseball cap hanging off one knee. His lips, plush and
soft—I know since I’ve had them on mine; it might have been a decade ago, but I
remember it clearly—are parted. He looks like he’s asleep.
I clear my throat. “Lance Romero?”
He doesn’t move.
Bernadette, the receptionist, gives me a meaningful
look.
I clear my throat again and call his name a second
time. He jolts awake and the hood falls back, exposing his face. It’s not in
good shape. He has a black eye and bruises on his left cheek. There’s a fly
bandage across one eyebrow.
Sadly, he’s still hot.
He blinks a few times, yawns, and smacks his lips,
his tongue touching the split in the bottom one. His gaze sweeps the room and
finally lands on me. Heat explodes in my cheeks and courses through my limbs,
warming me from the inside out as he starts at my sneaker-clad feet and roams
up over my yoga pants to my company-issued T-shirt before stopping at my face.
I can’t look directly at him for more than a couple of seconds. I sincerely
hope he doesn’t remember me. I cannot go there and also be professional.
I’m sure the smile he gives me
has melted many a panty off a slutty bunny. Mine stay right where they’re
supposed to, wedged up my ass.
I force a polite, professional veneer. “I’m ready
for you now.”

My sweet, sweet Lance.
You hid your demons so well. I never thought I would cry reading a
Pucked book but my dear ginger, you broke my heart and made me tear up. Pucked
Off was an emotional roller coaster ride that pulled at the heartstrings. It was
such an AMAZING story.
No one really knew how much Lance “Romance” Romera hid his
emotional past. One slip up and the one person he thought he could trust turned
those emotions and manipulated him. He was addicted to the toxic relationship
thinking he deserved it. That is until an unexpected reunion changed him for
the better. With one touch he was gone. Poppy was the light in the darkness. Poppy
was a fresh of breath air. She was adorable and sweet and everything that Lance
needed to heal.
Helena wrote this beautifully sweet and emotion story
weaving humor and romance for an epic story. I loved the slow build up and
glimpses of the past. The surfaced memories and the connection they shared even
at an early age. I loved Lance’s sweet side but loved his sexy side even
better. There are just so many layers to the story that made it a phenomenal read.
Helena out did herself and I hope there is more of this amazing series. The Pucked Series is one of my absolute favorites and I don’t think
there could be enough.
