Release Blitz & Review: Going Deep by Nikki Ash

Title: Going Deep
Author: Nikki Ash
Genre: Enemies to Lovers Romance
Release Date: April 6, 2019
Going deep: In football it means running down the field for a long pass. You’re serious. Committed. Unstoppable. As a wide receiver, it’s a term I’m all too familiar with. It’s who I am, at least when it comes to my career.
For the past decade, football has been the only thing I’ve allowed myself to commit to. That is until a beautiful, blue-eyed temptress steps into my limo to escort me to a charity function.
She’s strong, independent, and quick witted. Everything I want in a woman. There’s just one problem. She’s not mine for the taking. But that’s not going to stop me from winning her heart.
I’m in deep with this woman. I’m running down the field with my arms and heart open, ready for the catch. Now all I need is for her to throw the ball.
Going Deep (Imperfect Love #2)Going Deep by Nikki Ash
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Imperfect Love Series continues on with Going Deep, the Hero Killian Blake and the heroine Giselle Winters, are two characters we met in the Pick Up (book 1) as the best friends of Nick and Olivia. This book surprised the heck out of me with the level of angst and emotional undertone it held, I really felt a connection to Giselle, I know other reviewers haven't felt the same but I found her strength, stubbornness and desire for independence admirable.

Killian and Giselle begin as 2 people that tolerate each other for the sake of their mutual best friends. Giselle views Killian as a self absorbed ball player, and Killian see's Giselle as a stone faced, gold digger. As we get to know Giselle she totally surprised me, being suddenly thrust into being the sole provider for her family after her Father ups and leaves. Following the journey she has to go on in order to survive day to day with the struggles she faces, was awe inspiring and really pulled on my heartstrings.

At the beginning of the book Killian and Giselle's relationship is basically non existent and the words passed between them are not pleasant. Killian is a full blown arsehole at times (I do love an arsehole hero) and Giselle has enough fire to fling shit right back at him. However when she is alone behind closed doors we see his words really do go deep and burn. As Giselle begins to hide things from her best friends Killian begins to think this may partly be his fault for the way he has treated Giselle. When an evening event reveals her first secret to Killian the wheels are set in motion. One after the other things unravel forcing our hero and heroine to lean on one another and be broken and lonely together.

We begin to see more and more of Killian's softer side and all the swoon comes out. The battle for Giselle's independence rages on and almost at the detriment of the growing relationship between them. Going Deep was a fiercely real novel, tackling some common issues and struggles with mental health. Pacing was perfect and Nikki's writing was phenomenal, it was a book I was reading into the early hours of the morning because I was so sucked into all the angst. It was nice to see things feeding into Nick and Olivia's story too, getting updates on how they are doing after The Pick Up. We also got a little set up of what's to come in book 3 for Celeste's story, another heroine that is really misunderstood. After Going Deep I cannot wait to see what is next from Nikki Ash.
